This week is all about celebrating and promoting visibility for the lesbian community, which is what RCREW is all about!
Now, you may be wondering why visibility is so important to our community? Visibility is about more than just being seen - it's about being recognised, heard, and understood. For far too long, lesbians have been marginalised and erased from mainstream media, history, and culture. But by being visible, we can challenge that erasure and fight for our rights and representation.
When we are visible, we can show the world that we exist, that we are diverse, and that we are deserving of respect and equality. We can create role models for younger generations of lesbians, who may feel isolated or unsupported. We can build connections with other members of the LGBTQ+ community and work together to achieve our common goals.
But being visible isn't always easy. It can come with risks and challenges, such as discrimination, harassment, and violence. That's why it's important for us to support each other and create safe spaces for our community. It's important for us to amplify the voices of marginalised lesbians, such as trans lesbians, lesbians of colour, disabled lesbians, and more. And it's important for us to work towards creating a world where all lesbians can live openly and authentically without fear.
